A hero is a new kind of NPC (non player character) introduced with the release of Guild Wars Nightfall. Heroes can be used in all 3 current chapters. Heroes have improved AI in comparasion to henchman. Players can also customise a Heroes skills, armor and weapons. Each player can have up to a maximum of 3 heroes in a team with them at any one time. The rest of the party can be made up of henchman or other human players. Only certain heroes will be unlockable during the PvE campaign but as soon as you finish the PvE campaign you can go back and unlock the Heroes you missed. Heroes can also be unlocked for PvP and the costs varies between 3000 and 6000 balthazar faction depending on the hero you want to unlock.
